2020/2021 Preseason Announcement

As we near the start of registration for the 2020-21 hockey season, we want to update you on the approach we’re taking to get the kids back on the ice as safely as possible. As with everything right now, we’re dealing with a set of ever-changing regulations related to the COVID-19 pandemic that will guide the way the season looks and runs.

The WYHA board has been meeting throughout the summer, including to adopt a budget that keeps fees at the same level as last season. We’re also working to navigate the many unknowns we’re facing with directives from county and state public health officials, as well as recommendations and guidelines from the Wisconsin Amatuer Hockey Association and USA Hockey. Through all of this our main goal is to ensure that we are providing a safe environment for our children to play hockey. One thing we have done to help realize this goal was to create a position that monitors all of the current COVID-19 related policies and keep the club up to date on the latest protocols. Wildcat parent and doctor Ryan Porter has offered to serve as the Wildcats’ COVID-19 adviser. Thank you, Ryan. We’re also working closely with the Ice Pond administrators, who are in close contact with county officials, about cleaning protocols and creating a safe situation on the ice.

With all of these uncertainties and special rules comes varying degrees of frustration. We ask for your patience and flexibility as the season comes together, even though we don’t know yet how it will look. Right now, we’re planning to open registration on Aug. 15, and we ask that you register as soon as possible so we can get a sense of our numbers. We won’t require a deposit at this time. The only commitment we ask is that you register your skater with USA Hockey as you normally would prior to registering. The first payments for the season will be due by Sept. 15, after practices have started for older age groups (the younger skaters will start in October). Player evaluations are slated for the end of September, and we’ll send more details about those when they get closer.

There are a lot of question marks about the year ahead, but the Wildcat Youth Hockey Association is working to provide a safe hockey experience for your skater this season. We know from watching our own kids this spring and summer how important it is to have an outlet in sports, and we hope hockey can be part of their physical and emotional well being going forward.

We’ll continue to update everyone as we learn more. Please check the Wildcats website and Facebook page for more information, and let us know if you have any questions.

New to Hockey - Start with one of our beginning skater programs

Are you interested in introducing your child to skating and the sport of ice hockey?  If so, we have a path and plan for your child.

LTS program
Learn the fundamentals of skating. The LTS program has two sessions.  Each session runs about 10 weeks with a 1 hour practice session per week. Practice times and days may vary, but will typically be early Saturday mornings. Once the schedule is available you may access it on the website (see the link below). Skates and a hockey or bike helmet is all that is needed.  Click here for more information about Learn to Skate.

LTP program
Children continue the fundamentals of skating with added hockey skills and scrimmages during practice. Full hockey equipment is required. What was previously called "Learn To Play (LTP)" will now be incorporated with the 6U and 8U programs. There is no longer a separate level for LTP. Please sign up for 6U or 8U level depending on your child’s age. If your skater is new to hockey, and not sure if he/she is quite ready to go all-in, we will have a path for them, contact either the 6Uor 8UALD for information about that.

6U mites

8U mites

All WYHA programs

Schedule:  Once the schedule is set you will be able to access it from the website ( schedule page ).

A USA hockey registration number is required, which is free for kids 6 or under, as of Dec. 31.  If your child is over 6 years of age and you are registering for LTS please contact our registrar prior to registration to see about possibly waiving the USA hockey fee.  The USA hockey fee is required for all other levels.
